Education and training are important components of the FNL’s mission.  We have an established training and education program, supported by an educational grant from the National Institute of Mental Health (1 R25 MH 60478-01) that includes both a didactic component (including lectures and a website, www.functionalneuroimaging.org) and hands-on training.  This program covers all aspects of neuropsychiatric functional neuroimaging research, including identification of aims, hypothesis generation, study design, clinical characterization, cognitive paradigm development, image acquisition and analysis methods, interpretation of results, abstract and manuscript preparation.

Participants in our program have come from a variety of backgrounds including psychiatry, neurology, neuropsychology, cognitive psychology, physics, mathematics/statistics, and behavioral neuroscience, and from a broad range of educational levels including high school, college, postbaccalaureate (premedical or prepsychology), medical students, residents, doctoral and postdoctoral students (Ph.D. or M.D.).  Fellows from our program, who receive the most extensive training, have gone on to research faculty positions at leading institutions, in industry, and at the National Institutes of Health.
